Monster March 2021 Recap
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in Monster March 2021, our fifth annual Monster March event. You marched, got monstrous and brought the heat this past October!
Previously held at St. Patrick’s Island, the Monster March began as a way for us to support children in need while encouraging families to spend more time together exploring our beautiful city. This year, we continued our month-long, city-wide fundraising campaign. We did this not only to encourage the support of our wonderful YYC community but also to bring some fun for this year’s spooky season.
Drum roll please....together, we raised an incredible $53,227 for the Children’s Cottage Society with 352 donors - WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT! We absolutely could not have done this without you. Words can’t begin to express our gratitude for all of your support throughout October and beyond.
Here’s a little recap of what happened during Monster March 2021:
Community Partners
What we love about the city of Calgary is the ongoing rallying together as a community to make a difference in the lives of others! Thanks to our Monster March partners, Lunkio Consulting, Bro’Kin Yolk, Joyride Automotive, JPS Furnace, GEBA Interiors, Zia Automotive, Market Mall Denture Clinic, Calgary Co-op, Calgary Region & Family Day Homes and Jemmie Li Realtor for their generous donations. Collectively, over $11,000+ was raised towards this year’s Monster March Campaign!
Monster Merch Partnerships
Wee Wild Ones teamed up with two local Calgary businesses to showcase the talent and community value of our special city. Holy Cow, local ice cream and donuts shot in the heart of Kensington created a cookie monster ice cream flavour for the month of October, with a portion of the proceeds going towards the Children’s Cottage Society!
Throughout the month of October, the Ave Barber Shop donated 100% of the sales from every junior haircut to the Children’s Cottage as well! Big thanks to both these wonderful local businesses for helping us reach our goal!
Monster March Contest Winners
We’re extending a big congratulations to the following community members for showing their support and striving BIG in this year’s Monster March fundraising campaign! For those who put on their scariest, spookiest costume and participated in our virtual walk-a-thon, thanks for always putting your best foot forward! Shout out to Kayla Tyson for winning one of this year’s Team Spirit awards! Kayla and her son went above and beyond this year, raising a total of $4,310 for this year’s Monster March campaign! Monster March Strava Winners
Our Monster Maps helped Calgarians find the perfect routes to log those kilometres for Monster March 2021. Participants joined the Monster March Strava Contest to keep track of their walking goals. We can’t believe how many families got out there exploring the city - so cool! Congratulations to Kelsey Stinn for walking the Most KM’s covering a whopping 95.5 KM’s for the month of October! Kelsey, Kayla and Giselle all won gift cards to Joey's restaurant, while Lindsey received a gift card to Notable in Montgomery!
We also want to say congratulations to our NE Pinecones classroom for winning the highly coveted Village Ice Cream Party. They marched an incredible 32 km and truly set the bar high this year!
To wrap up this year’s Monster March fundraising campaign the children at our NE Bridgeland locations marched over the $50,000 cheque to our fellow neighbour, the Children’s Cottage Crisis Nursery. Our littles had a blast sharing this special delivery with the Cottage team. Click here to see the full story.
Although we are well past October and now into the holiday season, our team is continuing our Monster March donations until the end of December. To continue to support the Children’s Cottage and give back this winter, purchase our limited edition monster merch here or visit us at Market Collective on December 10 - 12 where we will be selling the remaining merchandise from this year’s fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to support the Cottage’s Caring Together Capital Campaign!
Keep your eyes peeled for more Monster March madness next October as we set out to double our funds and raise $100,000 for the Children’s Cottage Society!
